mc gyver

Last Friday, Jan. 28, we joined a contest in physics for some bonus points in sci 10 and ps 1 and 2 classes. RPG: Project Mc Gyver was the title of the said contest. RPG meant Real Physics Game. We were surprised that there were many contestants. Well, in all, there were 32 teams. The organizers were some of our physics major friends and they were glad that we joined.

Much to my dismay, we finished the game as the 6th placer. It’s not that I wasn't happy with that, maybe because I was expecting a higher place since we were unable to answer just one problem.

We were a team; and everything was done with a team effort. My teammates were Jaze, and DJ. Our team number was 31 and we belonged to the second batch. Actually, Sir Bennett, my Ps 1 teacher, was requiring us to join the said contest because he was the adviser of the organization – LEAPS (League of Physicists… scary ^_^) –the org behind the said game. He was giving big points for the winners. Duh.. Sayang talaga!

Anyway, that’s the way it was. I couldn’t do anything anymore but to be bitter… hehehe.. Now that’s a joke. ^_^ I enjoyed everything and I was still glad to share my disappointments here… hehehe…

about the title*: Mc Gyver was a character in the same titled TV show. He was good in practical things, most of the time about circuits, engines and all related to physics, and his past time was escaping and saving people. hehehe.. as I remembered, the show was aired in channel 9, sometime in the early 90’s. it was one of my favorite show then. I also remembered that the opening (or was it closing?!) of the show was an exploding helicopter were he successfully escaped in time. wait, do you guys still know him?!

Cesare A. X. Syjuco – A Reaction Paper

CCP.
It was a nice Saturday when I went at the Cultural Center Of The Philippines with Joan Lim, my FA 165.2 classmate. Surprisingly, Joan and I were wearing pink blouses and as we saw Mara there, she was also wearing a pink shirt. As I expected, there were many people at the said event.

Artist.
The main artist, whose works were exhibited at the Bulwagang Juan Luna, was Mr. Cesare A. X. Syjuco. Most of his works constituted literary ideas and the integrated with several concepts and pictures. Several themes were also very evident in his works.

Poets.
Actually, the said event was a poetry reading and art exhibit at the same time. Several writers were there presenting their poems. There were also a performance art (my first ever experience..) and some musical performances. The poems seemed to focus in different aspects. Maxine Syjuco, daughter of Mr. Cesare, was also there to read her poem.

Integration.
As Miss Jean Marie emphasized in her introduction to her brother’s works, I caught full attention in the aspect of integrating visual arts to the literary arts or vice versa. I was expecting a great deal of understanding to his works, so I focused in his styles. Indeed, he used his imagination to combine the two unique interpretations of art. Impressive, I thought. Very unique.

Colors.
Black in black and white in white were common themes of his work. They were painted or printed in huge glasses and in larger fonts. Most of them were plain in form and simple in style. Again, the usual colors used were white, black, gray, and a few of red. He presented a variety in shades of white. I guess he stresses his points by using these fading effects of colors.

Humor.
In a number of his works, hilarity was present. For instance, the work were there were two nuns and a chief, the child was actually scared of the nuns than the big chief. Evident also was the usage of female portraits in his works. He even put it in one work that women were the destruction of men. Also, I found humor in one of the piece were stated was, “Saddam has sent his love.” With a proceeding line that suggested that we should also trust him.

Images.
Most of the images were plain. Women portraits were dominant. There were also several men and a couple of inanimate objects (there was a doll).

Reaction.
Surprised and amused. Everything was unique and needed focus to understand and therefore be able to appreciate. Interesting was his ways of exercising his artistic talents. A little shocked by Mr. Syjuco’s physical appearance, because I though of him at somewhat, a formal guy.

Comment.
Nice. I was never been in a poetry reading gig. The guess readers were great and I appreaciated their works very much. I love reading. The most interesting was the poem referring to ‘time’ and making most of it. The entire show was great. The food were also well prepared. I was glad because I was able to attend and got the chance to get his autograph.

/extra*: happy birthday to my nina rose villanueva and high schoolmate Jeffrey Santos.. yey!!

vain glory...

what has life to offer me? i’m denouncing this world again. i hate my limitations and therefore i’ll find my refuge in another place else... in my art perhaps?! i tried drawing a lady in a cliff but it just made my day more gloomy. I recalled visiting Ateneo Art Gallery last monday and i found several paintings inspiring and at the same time, tiring. There were several works from Amorsolo, which impressed me. The exhibit was entitled ‘vain glory’ which was focusing on people, faces and doings. during the program, they serve red wine (Torres was the brand, i guess..) and some breads. It was amazing because there were only two fourth year students who organized everything for the fulfillment of their project in Arts Management.

paintings were always great. eye catching themes of faces staring at me made me shiver. art in its context was very intimidating and better yet, inspiring at the same time. a form of escape... yes.. the irony of living in a world that was full of inanimate things and of people believing in unseen objects.. totally scares me..

the builders..

hey guys!! i'm specially happy today!! hehehe.. well, yesterday, we joined the 'aftermath', a game patterned to 'amazing race' of america.. basically, it was open for the ams (ateneo math society..^_^) members only. well, we participated last year it i found it very exciting and fun. so, as we joined, nagkaroon ng onting twists.. there were few contestants, so instead of three members per team, they came up with the idea of pairs instead. so may partner was dj (she regarded herself as the 'assassin'). when the race started, we were praying the three o'clock prayer (yes! you died Jesus, as a source...), our technique involved individual fortes.. it means, we solved in separate ways. with that, we finished the race as the second top scorer! yeah! we won a cash prize of 300 pesos (we paid 20 for the entrace fee..), and the prestige that we were just two sophomores.. hehehe.. we were very tired, so after the race, we ate in jabee (jollibee ^_^).. mara, cheeckbones (jaze..), and ate chai were also there. haaaayyy.. sobrang saya ko nun..

today was another special day!! hehehehe.. we went to the CCP (cultural center of the pinas..) for our fa 165.2 class.. i was expecting a dull, boring and slow poetry reading, so i was surprised by the events and presentations that followed. i went there with joan lim (*thank you gurl!! ^_^), and we met mara there. surprisingly, the three of us were wearing pink blouses!! hehe.. asteg! anyway, the show hadn't started on time so ms. eloi (our great fa teacher..) accompanied us to see the famous work of victorio edades, 'the builders'. it was breath taking!! asteeeeg.. i wasn't able to get a picture because the curator wouldn't allow us (below was a picture from the internet).. anyway, i was still inspired and glad.

mr. cesare a.x. syjuco was the main man who owned all the displayed works of art at the juan luna portion of the main gallery of ccp. i found them intriguing and great at the same time. the stlye was very unique and therefore original! his daughter, maxine, also writes poetry. i was lucky enough to get signatures from them.. hehehe... so bye for now.. until next time.. ^_^

about the title*: the builders is a great obra by the father of Philippine modern arts, mr. victorio edades..

lovely day..

another breath taking picture of the sun as it hides itself.. ^_^ Posted by Hello

so often we end our days with tired body and haggard souls. maybe we should do it in the other way around. everyday is a lovely day!! c",)

most people aren't fortunate enough to survive in this crazy yet small world. why would we bother ourselves looking for faults? we should endure God's gift of life and of course, nature..

i love the sun, the waters, the sky, - nature - just as i love life itself. i wish to share to you my joyous moment as i gaze upon this world.. have a good day!

about the title*: lovely day is a song by luther vandross featuring busta rhymes.. here's the lyrics guys..

*When I wake up in the morning, love. And the sunlight hurts my eyes,
And something strange without a warning, love, Bears heavy on my mind

[CHORUS]Then I look at you, and the world is all right with me
Just one look at you, and I know it's gonna be
A lovely day… lovely day, lovely day, lovely day…

When the day that lies ahead of me, seems impossible to face
When somebody else instead of me, always seems to know the way
[CHORUS]

[BRIDGE]It’s gonna be a lovely day. (it’s gonna be)It’s gonna be today
It’s gonna be a lovely day. Today I love the world and I love you
[CHORUS][BRIDGE]

It’s gonna be today, A lovely day today (2x)

another day in paradise..

a glimpse of sunset.. ^_^ nice*.. Posted by Hello

the rays of sunlight as it fades.. how beautiful!!

about the title*: originally sung by phil collins, 'another day in paradise' was also released by brandy featuring ray j. here's the lyrics guys..

*She calls out to the man on the street "Sir can you help me?"
It's cold and I've no where to sleep, is there somewhere you can tell me?
He walks on, doesn't look back, he pretends he can't hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street, seems embarrassed to be there

[Chorus]Oh, think twice,
'cause it's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh, think twice,'cause it's just another day for you,
You and me in paradise

She calls out to the man on the street. He can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet. She can't walk but she's trying
[Chorus]

Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face. You can see that she's been there Probably been moved on from every place. 'Cause she didn't fit in there
[Chorus]

Just think about it
It's just another day for you and me in Paradise [3x]
